This is a warning to all parents of UNL students. My student was involved in a car accident in a UNL owned parking garage. We realized that speed was an issue in the garage when we moved her into her student living apartment complex. One month after school started she was hit in the garage. There was a dispute with the insurance company as to fault of the accident so I requested to view the surveillance video of the accident. After waiting a week for a response from the UNL police department my request was denied because "I was not directly involved." They also said I could not come with her to view it. I am the owner of the vehicle in the accident, it is my insurance and most of all I'M HER MOTHER! I am so tired of unl's collaboration to separate parents from their children. I don't care if 19 is the "legal age" they are teenagers that are still learning and I would think that the police department would want to work together with parents. I cannot dispute the insurance company based on my daughters version of the accident and if if I can't defend my daughter after watching the video then I would like to use that as an opportunity to explain her fault in the accident. Shame on UNL for their tactics of separation of parents and child! "Where is the common sense?"
