Just really disappointed at the executive director as well in that I was basically bullied, and my son is excluded because he is different.
It is hard finding care options that are not 80 kids in a room with legos being monitored by teenagers, so I paid the extra for Children's Museum. In the summertime it was great my son had all of his needs met, and they old staff understood that he just needs some quiet time. Some kids are different. I know that the norm is for kids to be loud, seek attention and play in packs. Well my son just wants to chill, and be left alone. Unfortunately at the age of 9 I can't leave him home alone and care options in Lincoln are extremely limited for children that have unique needs. Limited to the point of there being none now thanks to the new education director's lack of communication skills.
We've been members for years! And will be until our children are too old. There's so much to do and they are always keeping it interesting with small displays changing, and adding new things! One of our favorite places to visit, and surprisingly clean, I can't remember a time that we thought a child caught something there, which says a lot to cleanliness in the fall and winter months. The parents nights out are a wonderful deal for a dinner and movie night for parents, and the day camps are amazing for a day off! I know I'm missing something, but there are so many great programs!
We always love it here. My kids really enjoy themselves because there is so much to do. Plus staff is always friendly which is a bonus!
This is the best children's museum we have ever been to. There are 3 floors of child size experiences of the adult world. There is a real fire engine, plane, and tractor. There is a 3 story clock tower to climb in and feed bricks into. My 2 year old loved every minute of this museum.
We miss the old staff, as the new staff does not seem to understand what being a parent is like and is lacking in compassion.
I'm sure the new staff is going to be fantastic at fundraising, and finding corporate sponsors to advertise all over the play spaces.
My kids love the Lincoln Children's Museum. The activities are entertaining. I wouldn't recommend for older kids if you're looking for a great learning experience. But if you want to keep little ones entertained in a safe environment where the can see a mini snapshot of Lincoln, and learn a little bit in the process, it's perfect. Especially if it's cold outside.
We miss the old staff. The executive director took time out of her day to call me in the middle of my work day to explain their insurance policy to me and firmly express that my quiet kid with the personality of Ferdinand the Bull would not be able to attend summer camp this year because he does not want to participate in playtime. For two years my son has gone to Children's Museum but with the change of staff in the educational department he is no longer welcome. Rather than have a four minute receptive conversation with me at a time the new staff called me repeatedly in the middle of the day and then had the executive director look up some insurance policy.
