Very pleased overall. If I had a complaint it would be the fact that I have to walk up stairs, that bothers my knee. OTHERWISE I have no complaints!
Decent enough library system for a small city. Good selection and rapid turnover of old/new books. Wide variety of subject too - for example there are plenty of books on 3D printing, old-school electronics and modern fire-fighting. The fiction section is well-stocked across all genre and no one author or style dominates.
I love the sheet music selection at Bennett Martin, but I wish they are open later because of my job schedule and in a more convenient location.
What's not to love? You can check out up to 10 DVDs! The little outdoor patio is one of my favorite places.
For a city of 200,000 with a large university, the Lincoln City Library system is slightly underwhelming. It's more a funding issue than the fault of any individuals in the system itself, but unfortunately selection is relatively limited, and it's often cheaper to purchase used books than use the interlibrary loan system here. I grew up in a much poorer and smaller town than Lincoln, yet the library there was phenomenal in comparison, so I concede that perhaps my expectations are higher than they should be.
However, the resources provided here are no doubt useful to the community, and as I said I don't blame anyone on the library staff for this issue; it's a matter of priorities and funding that no doubt occurs above anything they decide. The staff are friendly, the Internet works well, and it's a nice place to sit downtown without paying anything. Maybe with the new facility the library system will eventually receive the funding to improve the request and ILL processes.
